We can all agree that 2020 has been an interesting year and whilst we were all hoping that the pandemic would be over in time for us to enjoy our summer to the fullest, Ms Rona clearly had different plans. However, one good thing that summer 2020 brought was the music, and the UK music scene is definitely growing in quantity and quality. So here are 4 favourites from this summer
Embodying the title perfectly, ‘Summer Love’ brings all the positive energy surrounding summer and love. Consistent with her nostalgic vibes, R.A.E presents perfect balance of light melodies over a 90s style beat that is sure to get you smiling and feeling good.
Collaborations between artists always excite listeners, especially when done properly and ‘All Me Pt 2’ does not disappoint. From the monochrome fits and confidence in the video, to the hint of 90s vibe in the production and consistent talent amongst all four women, this is a definite listen.
Delivering a smooth combination of R&B and Dancehall, Miraa May and Haile provide us with the sweetest vocals this summer. The first set of harmonies in this song are bound to have you swaying with your eyes closed, and based on her other two releases ‘Blessed’ and ‘Carnival Love’, Miraa’s up and coming project definitely sounds like one you can whine your waist to.
Darkoo seems to have perfected the method of creating a hit, and Kryptonite is no exception. Released in time for summer, with a memorable chorus and beat, Darkoo reminded us of a much needed phrase to hold onto for the year “tough times never last, only tough people last.” This is undoubtedly a song that should have been played at every summer BBQ and party.
